Lineage Teaching 750-1000 AD

Advanced Class Series 5

We are excited to introduce Lineage Teaching Series 750 - 1000 AD, the third course of the series, with the most profound respect and appreciation. Shifu (master/teacher) Linda and Shifu Jeremy have decided to dedicate their lives in leading us to read through Zen masters' teachings from the Chinese Zen school's founding master Bodhidharma (c. 500 AD) through modern masters in recent times. Even though this lifetime project is in the beginning stage, we cannot wait to launch the 3rd course and share these valuable teachings with you.

Shifu Linda explains the attempt is to find the essence of Chinese Zen teachings across the divisions of lineages and time. Both Shifu Linda and Shifu Jeremy urge us to learn from our ancient fellow practitioners' experience to build up the right view about Zen and Zen meditation, practice Zen meditation by Zen masters' teachings to uncover self-nature, and pass on the lineage teaching to lead people to Enlightenment.

Shifu Linda selects Zen teachings/stories to present the core values and essential teachings of Chinese Zen school from a wide range of Chinese Zen doctrine collections, including but not limited to Jingde chuandeng lu (or Record of the Transmission of the Lamp, Chn. 景德傳燈錄), Biyan lu (or Blue Cliff Record, Chn. 碧巖錄), Zhengfaya zang (or Treasury of the True Dharma Eye, Chn. 正法眼藏), Zhiyue lu (or Record of Pointing at the Moon, Chn. 指月錄), Xu chuandeng lu (or Later Record of the Transmission of the Lamp, Chn. 續傳燈錄), Wumen guan (or The Gateless Gate, Chn. 無門關), Zhengyuan lueji (A Brief Collection of the True Origins, Chi. 正源略集), through the modern Zen master Sheng-Yen's (Chn. 聖嚴, 1931 - 2009) collections of Gongan yibai (or 100 Chan Gongans, Chn. 公案 100) and Chanmen xiuzheng zhiyao (or The Essentials of Practice and Attainment within the Gate of Chan, Chn. 禪門修證指要). She then translates these teachings into English, and, together with Shifu Jeremy, they lead us to read through the lineage teachings in in-person, real-time, and video classes, also amid Zen retreats.

We have edited the videos such that they reflect Shifu Linda and Shifu Jeremy's teaching style. At the same time, we strive to release the videos as soon as we possibly can given the limited resources that we have.
